Columbia Garage Doors and Openers, LLC
was started on March 1, 2002 by Gary Boyson. Gary and his wife Michelle moved to Columbia, Tennessee in January of 2002, from Palmyra, New York.
In October 2001 the Boysons visited middle Tenessee, and knowing some people in the area, decided that they wanted to move to Columbia area. Gary had worked for one of the original Overhead Door Companies, Overhead Door Company of Rochester, NY for three years, quickly gaining experience in sales, residential door and opener installation and repairs, and also some experience in commercial installation and repair.
Gary’s quality of work is described by one of the company's owners, Wayne Blue, as “impeccable”, who also dubbed him a nickname of “escargot“ (snail), because he was their slowest installer, but, the quality of his work more than made up for it.
Sean Perine started working for us part time in 2007 while entering in his last year of high school. With starting out just to help lift the other end of a door, and his natural talent for quickly understanding how things work, he quickly gained much valuable experience in the garage door industry. With this experience we hired him for full time after his graduation, but at the end of summer he chose to leave to go to college. This was good for both of us. This was just at the beginning of the recession where work slowed down. Also it gave him the opportunity to gain some work experience in different fields of work and from different companies.
After a few years of living in several different states, Sean moved back to the area, married, and wanted his job back. At that time the economy had not yet rebounded and the work was not yet there. We did use him several times a month on a day by day basses. Since we could not provide the work, he was able to get work at the Nissan plant in Smyrna, TN.
As the economy improved and the work load increased, we hired Sean for part time work in July of 2016 while he still worked for Nissan. One year later in July of 2017 he left Nissan and started full time.
We are pleased to have him on full time now, and we have had many customers call or write to explain how pleased they were of the professional service he has preformed for them.
